"A theory is something nobody believes, except the person who made it. An experiment is something everybody believes, except the person who made it."
~ Albert Einstein
Although my primary responsibility as a lecturer is instruction, I have several research interests. I am particularly interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning and using the findings from this field to enhance students experiences in the classroom. I am also interested in understanding the processes that underlie the stigma toward persons with disabilities that can lead to discrimination in employment settings. Hopefully, an understanding of these processes can lead to a reduction in discriminatory practices. Finally, I have recently gained a curiosity in pre- and post-emancipation sociological and anthropological studies and how understanding one's familial past can lead to positive outcomes for one's future.
It would rightly seem that these three areas of research are unrelated to each other; and they are. The only connection between them is my personal experiences and the profound meaning they have to my life. It is through "meanings" that we as individuals discover purpose and satisfaction. |
